There are two main reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: black;\">they allow to reduce operating costs thanks to lower fuel consumption and working times<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: black;\">they lead to a greater conservation of the organic substance, with beneficial effects on the soil and the atmosphere<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To be optimally applied, <span style=\"color: black;\">From the moment this technique is adopted, it must be in perfect harmony with other cultivation practices, taking into consideration certain aspects, such as <span style=\"color: #666666;\"><strong>type of soil<\/strong><\/span> (light or medium-textured soils are better suited than heavy ones). <\/span>The <strong>climatic trend<\/strong> and the <strong>type of crop<\/strong> also have an important influence on the application of no-till seeding. In fact, <span style=\"color: black;\">high-yield crops such as wheat do not have <span style=\"color: #666666;\"><strong>high sensitivity in failures<\/strong><\/span> due to imperfect seed-soil contact or in the depth of deposition<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What are the <strong>advantages<\/strong> and <strong>disadvantages<\/strong> of this agronomic practice? Many years of tests carried out by several Italian research centres clearly show that, in arable land, the replacement of traditional ploughing with no-till seeding (or even minimum tillage) implicates a <strong>significative reduction in fuel consumption.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Using combined machines, capable of <strong>carrying out several operations in a single step<\/strong>, given the type of soil and the crop, results in an economic saving can reach and exceed 50% compared to conventional techniques. In fact, multi-year trials carried out on durum wheat in Southern Italy show how no-till seeding can show an <strong>increase in soil compaction<\/strong> in the long term due to the lack of rotation of the clod.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition to this, while higher soil moisture ensures <strong>better water availability<\/strong> for the root systems, it also <strong>favours the onset of attacks by fungal diseases<\/strong>. This is why it is important to carefully handle weeding in the transition phase between conventional and conservative agriculture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Weeding<\/strong> serves precisely to <strong>compensate for the absence of mechanical control provided by the processing<\/strong>, often entailing additional costs for the farm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the main disadvantage associated with the application of no-tillage <span style=\"color: black;\">is the <strong><span style=\"color: #666666;\">decline in<\/span> <span style=\"color: #666666;\">production<\/span><\/strong><\/span>: <span style=\"color: black;\">the reduction in the intensity of processing, while containing costs, does not always allow incomes comparable to conventional processing due to lower productions, especially with no-till sowing<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fortunately, <strong>precision agriculture<\/strong> makes up for this shortcoming.
