Since its inception, about 20,000 years ago, agriculture has evolved into a system that can provide as much food as possible to the world’s population at the lowest possible cost. Few pieces of equipment like shredders - a category that brings together flail mowers and straw choppers - are used in extreme conditions. In fact, this type of machine is required to perform extremely mechanically demanding operations, ranging from cutting spontaneous vegetation to shredding pruning residues on different slopes, most of the time in extremely dusty conditions.

In the last years, climatic change (in particular, the extreme raise of temperature and the lack of rainfalls in summer) became a serious problem everyone must deal with, especially farmers which are forced to adapt their crop to these conditions.

The organic substance in the soil represents the biggest Carbon (C) reserve on Earth. In literature we can see different amounts, whom are estimated on the total quantity of carbon: such values are between 1.000-2.000 billion tons of organic carbon in the soil, in relation to 700-800 billion tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the atmosphere and to 500-600 tons in vegetable biomass. Due to the continuously growing industrialization, the natural balance is getting more and more lost, with a consequent increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
